Following the model of Impact Hub in Seattle, this community center in Port Au Prince, Haiti is intended to be an inviting, accessible place for education, training and collaboration. Goals of net zero energy consumption, passive and active measures will be pursued including a solar array partially covering a trellis structure, a green roof that will be used for growing produce, natural cross-ventilation, exterior sun shading and expansive fenestration to maximize daylighting. Contextually, the building design addresses the street with an entry colonnade providing a cool filter enabling passage into the interior courtyard which is a figurative cloistered town square. Working with a local architect and Engineers without Borders, this will be a study in regionalism using Haitian building materials and methods.
