FILLING THE GAP IN A STREET OF ICONIC BUILDINGS, THE VISUAL ECCENTRICITY OF LANTERN’S DESIGN MAKES IT AN UNMISSABLE ADDITION TO THE EXISTING RIBBON OF MARKERS ALONG WELLINGTON STREET AND A UNIQUE BEACON OF LIFE IN MELBOURNE’S EVER-CHANGING CITYSCAPE.

Design of a 9 story multi-residential building, with three levels of basement carparking, on the corner of Wellington and Napoleon Streets in the vibrant suburb of Collingwood in central Melbourne. The development is near bustling Smith and Johnston Street entertainment and retail precincts and caters to a young urban professional/investor demographic.

Lantern’s façade forms a bold bridge between the street and the sky; sheltering the apartments within and unifying its three horizontal volumes through vertical stratification. The façade manipulates proportion and form to create a single unified envelope. The result is a sensation of frozen movement which redefines existing typologies and mirroring the rebirth of this revitalized precinct. The striking presence of the building within the streetscape speaks of the vibrant cultural context of its surrounds.
