Tobacco & Newspapers Shop

The existing building affected by the intervention is in a central position, of the small town called Sorso, close to the train station, in a place where passengers, who arrive and depart, cross. Before the intervention, the building was in very critical conditions both inside and outside. The project concerned the rebuilding of the facade and the redefinition of the interior spaces of about 75 square meters. The part of the facade concerned was only the one on the ground floor, the upper floor belonged to another property. The colors for the new facade also return to the inside of the building. The new elevation has a gray color and the base has been realized in meteoric diorite of dark gray color, useful for solving humidity problems at the base of the building. The redevelopment of the façade also involved the replacement of old aluminum frames, with new wooden frames and iron closures painted black and the design of a new backlit iron sign.

Internally the intervention is configured in a very simple way, in fact a system of furniture was created to satisfy the double function of tobacco and newspapers shop. The furnishing elements were made of natural oak, with inserts in black wood, iron and brown leather. The project differs from the classic contemporary newspapers and tobacco shops, because every part of it has been designed and custom made with the help of local artisans. In relation with the small size of the spaces, it was decided to make space centrally and attest all the furnishings in the perimeter of the wall in order to widen the perception of the internal space dimension.

The lighting system was designed in relation to the function, it was necessary to have a very bright and easy space to control; for this reason, four suspended lighting fixtures were inserted and a led lighting system have been integrated into the design of the furniture.
