Abitare il Parco (Sintesi della relazione di progetto)

L’intervento si colloca in un lotto stretto e molto lungo che, per la sua posizione e conformazione particolare, rappresenta il limite tra il quartiere residenziale del Gallaratese e le aree rurali in corso di trasformazione a nord. Il parco e lo spazio pubblico strutturano l’intervento architettonico mettendo in relazione gli edifici, le zone verdi e i percorsi, in un discorso continuo, omogeneo e unitario.

Un percorso pedonale est-ovest organizza l’insieme, relazionando le fasce verdi a nord e sud. Le due parti si inseguono lungo il percorso invadendo l'alveo del viale, creando deviazioni e cambi di direzione. A sud il parco si propone come un’estensione della via Appennini, diventando così spazio pubblico per l’intero quartiere Gallaratese, dotato di aree attrezzate distinte per uso e qualitá dei materiali.

Il problema dell’inquinamento acustico e della creazione di una barriera di protezione dal rumore stradale è stato affrontato con la volontá di mantenere la permeabilitá tra strada e parco. Il muro-collina di altezza variabile si configura come un elemento scultorico del nuovo paesaggio di Via Gallarate che si lascia perforare e ritagliare secondo le linee di accesso pedonale e che accoglie al suo interno in spazi semi-ipogei dei piccoli padiglioni di servizio al quartiere.

Gli edifici si conformano con altezze variabili lungo tutto il percorso, si lasciano perforare ai piani terra, ruotano per adattarsi al cammino, si integrano ai terrapieni a nord e si elevano con quattro torri sul lato sud, verso la città consolidata.

Gli appartamenti, la maggior parte di tre e quattro camere, sono stati disegnati con una particolare attenzione all’esposizione solare e alla ventilazione incrociata est-ovest, e godono tutti di zone filtro verso l’esterno in un alternarsi di terrazze schermate con gelosie d’alluminio e loggie scavate nel volume dell’edificio che rappresentano luoghi intimi di transizione tra interno ed esterno.


Social Housing in a public park.
The intervention is located on a long and very narrow plot bordered to the south by the residential neighbourhood Gallaratese and to areas of future transformation to the north.
Public space structures the project. Along a linear park take place the co-habitation of green spaces, leisure areas, shops, neighbourhood services and social housing buildings.
The density of construction allows the long distance between the four buildings, which are located in such a way as to not face onto the existing buildings on the south, on Via Appennini.
The concept of the project places the accent on the importance of social aspect and ways of meeting that the proposal prompts. Thus, with the entire area designated as a park in the masterplan, the buildings retain a powerful urban identity and allows that private use – housing – and public use – squares, services and commercial spaces – live together in a way tipical of the historic city.
The housing blocks present variable heights along the pedestrian walkway, they are perforated by the avenue in ground floor and turn their position to adapt to the boulevard and to become part of the slopes to the north. They finally rise with four towers to the south towards the consolidated neighbourhood Gallaratese.
In this side the park presents outfitted areas and play islands planned in a rithm with the treatment of the ground level with a succession of various materials – stone, wood, field, bushes, trees – that create a complexity of usage and esthetic quality of roof floor.
The problem of acoustic pollution by the traffic of via Gallarate is solved trough the creation of a sculptural system of wall-slope with openings and enclosures which work once as a visual connection with the rural surroundings once as a noise isolation device against the street.
The apartments are designed with a particular attention to insulation and ventilation features and always profit of an intimate filter area with the outside consisting in a protected terrace or in a loggia excavated in the building volume with aluminum jealousies. They have always cross-ventilation and a double exposition East-West, guaranting an excelent climatic equilibrium.
The various apartments typologies, that are mainly two and three rooms, are charaterized by flexible distribution, often with kitchen integrated in living rooms or separeted by flowing panels.
