Milano / Italy / 2014
To characterize the design of this apartment was an operation of emptying the existing space, which allowed to obtain a central living room flanked by two L-shaped specular bodies. The longitudinal development of this new room has linked the terrace and a bow window “placed respectively at the two ends”, arousing a feeling of continuity, spaciousness and luminosity.
Particular attention has been paid to the two bathrooms. For those of the guests “a long and narrow rectangular reservoir” a chromatic solution was preferred to produce a sense of lateral expansion obtained by using white, and a sense of vertical compression obtained through the use of use of black. The second bathroom, located between the bed in the middle and a perimeter wall, is made up of three translucent glass slabs. This layout gives continuity to the space and allows an uninterrupted movement inside the room.
Although the restructuring intervention was radical, the preservation of some pre-existing elements left the relationship between formal and consolidated typological suggestions, and a language full of architectural and technological innovations.
