Park Adana Shopping Center | Gorkem Volkan Design Studio
Adana / Turkey / 2017
The aim is to create physical and visual relations between interior
spaces for utilization of the overall volume in ParkAdana Shopping
Mall project, which covers approximately 135.000 square-meters. To
establish the relations, a media wall is applied on the vertical surface of
the orbicular void that connects the floors to each other. The visual and
acoustical relation is kept continuous through this wall.
Vertical roof bearing elements on the food court floor are designed with
regards to a tree trunk in a constructive manner. Therefore the load
bearing elements are indirectly correlated to the natural forms around
the building, with a natural feeling but without losing their functions.
Those bodies also provided support to the circular design of the roof
opening, with wood and green plants.
Shopping malls do not just contain areas that are designed only to provide
shopping experience but they include urban life as places of social
interaction. While most of these large spaces are private subsidiaries,
they are inhabited by public space traffic to a great extent. The most
important design factor for the inner space projects in such places, is to
be determinative and steering when it comes to the individuals’ shifting
preferences towards shopping and social activities.
