Priority Pass business lounge of Platov airport (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) Rostov-on-Don / 2018
Rostov-on-Don is the southern capital of the Russian Federation, a large industrial and cultural center. Platov Airport is the largest transport hub of this rich region with a total area more than 50,000 sq.m.
The concept of the project conveys the natural beauty and richness of the southern region - beauty of the endless horizon of the Don.
A metal profile, located at the eye level of a standing person, draws a graphic line along the partitions around the lounge perimeter, resembling the horizon. A visually heavier finish is selected for the partitions below the profile line. A linear source of light is hidden in the profile, illuminating the top surfaces with blue light. The idea was to make the space in its upper part less material and more ephemeral and dissolved. This is also facilitated by the “absence” of the ceiling and the transparent partitions dividing the hall into functional areas. The partitions are varied in height, proportions and color, but they are all enclosed in thin metal frames which echo with the “horizon” graphics. Transparent layers and thin lines overlap each other in perspective, and in the center there is a large blue mirror sun, which hovers above increasing the illusory depth of space.
