PHILOSOPHY, PROCEDURES, MATERIALS, BADGET A building, house of architecture, where everyone can contribute to its life, where the exchange of ideas itself is its deepest reason to be. DIY, draw it yourself, as a possible motto. From here the idea to re-claim traditional information devices: blackboard, CDs, drawing tables. Re-claimed blackboard/slate stones become the outer skin where UIA staff and people are encouraged to leave messages, sketch their ideal building, express themselves transforming the info point in a giant and continuously changing city mail box. Re-claimed CDs, set within low-E glass panels, become shadow devices casting the light inside – day – and outside – night, reflecting Piazza Castello or the info point life and so changing its mood. They also become a façade pattern generating a pixelate texture where capture texts or symbols can be launch. Some, accessible from the inside, will contain UIA or city information. Information will also be provided by 24/7 flat screens and computer access scattered on the building skin. Re-cycled adjustable architectural furniture will meet all the main activities foreseen in the building and also contributing to ‘transmit architecture’. All the other materials are re-claimed, recycled, recyclable or eco-friendly. See notes on this sheet. Finally thanks to a modular and flexible structure the building is easy to demount and re-assemble. Budget. Preliminary cost esteem (99m2 floor area): 95.000 euros (structure: 35%; building envelope, incl. roof and floor: 50%, other: 15%).
