Palazzo Martorelli Orsini is located in the historic center of Spoleto (PG) near Piazza Duomo and Piazza del Mercato, it was built on the site of the ancient Roman “Capitolium” and extends for an entire block. The 16th century building, with traces of the 15th due to the recast of pre-existing buildings, is now owned by the Municipality of Spoleto.
The location in the fifteenth century is due to some construction elements still evident today, such as the mullioned window overlooking Via Visiale, cut by the string course of the next building, the differences in thickness of the walls of the attic, which make think of consistent interventions over time changing the height of the building, the closed windows and the wall fixtures on Via Aurelio Saffi, which testify to the merging and consolidation of pre-existing medieval buildings. The adaptation and refunctional intervention has allowed the introduction of the new directional destinations, currently installed within the historical building, in full compliance with the original building features, in fact, both the original wall structure and the typological map of the complex have remained unchanged. Also the Roman floorings found on the ground floor, the pictorial decorations, the wooden coffered ceilings, the cornices and the stone decorations of the external and internal portals of the building have been restored.
