The Bunkers is an example of architecture with a high-quality finish, which provides a unique vibe, right in the middle of the polders at the Belgian seaside. The rural estate has a rich history going back to 1785. The Austrian emperor Joseph II built ‘Fort Hazegras’ to protect the new Hazegras lock. The Germans occupied the fort during WW I & II. The 5 stone bunkers that encircle the grounds are silent witnesses to those turbulent times. Now the bunkers are a shelter for our chickens, bees and sheep. So, breakfast here comes with fresh eggs, homemade honey and a splendid view over the polders. The wood used for the outside is Afromosia, an African wood. The place has been kept as serene as possible: black, white and gray predominate. With the help of architects Govaert & Vanhoutte from Bruges, interior designer Anversa from Antwerp and landscape architect Leon Van Haesebrouck we turned the place into a house with guest rooms. We installed a Vipp kitchen, which is the center when you enter the house and a delight for our guests who like to cook. The Bunkers is the perfect spot to relax as we aim for rest and privacy. But you won’t get bored! You can chill out in the pool or the sauna, do some exercise in the gym, enjoy the surroundings, play some board games, ping pong,…
The villa has 5 double rooms; each is equipped with its own private bathroom, toilet, flat screen TV, safe, Wi-Fi and air conditioning. You will find everything your need there. There are even bathrobes, slippers, towels, toiletries and a hair dryer ready and waiting. The five rooms are all different. The Field Room has a wide view over the polders. The Terrace Room has a terrace. The River Room is the cosy one. The Bunker Room has e very low window from where you have a view of nature and our sheeps from your bed. The largest room is the Polder Room with a bath cut out of concrete. We wanted them to be personal and create a different style / atmosfere in every one of them.
