A House between a Museum and a Kitchen | Jesús Aparicio Estudio de Arquitectura

The renovation considers to divide the apartment into two areas: the servant and the served spaces. The first one is developed in the rear area of the house, taking advantage of the lighting and ventilation through the interior patios of the building. The only room structured with furniture is located along the main façade and facing to the most important art gallery since the XVIII century in Madrid.

The intervention wants to put in value the many positive pre-existent elements that the apartment had: a main total space, an important clear height and the reinforced concrete structure of beams and columns. The remodelling has strengthen the museum presence in the apartment’s interiors and maintained the maximum ceiling height, showing the structure where it had a special meaning. As a background of this scene, all the house has been covered with a white oak hardwood flooring.

In short, this renovation is an apartment which is tighten by two opposite main rooms: a living room with a view, in front of the museum, and a bright kitchen which take profit of an existent skylight and pre-existent high hollows.

La reforma que esta casa plantea es dividir la función entre una zona servidora y otra servida. La primera se desarrolla en la zona más interior de la casa, aprovechando para su iluminación y ventilación los huecos a los patios de luces existentes. Una única estancia estructurada con mobiliario se ubica a lo largo de la fachada y frente al más importante museo-pinacoteca que desde el siglo XVIII tiene Madrid.

La actuación material ha querido poner en valor las muchas cosas positivas que existían antes de la intervención: un lugar único, la altura libre considerable de la vivienda y la estructura de hormigón. La actuación ha potenciado la presencia del museo en el interior de la vivienda, ha mantenido la mayor altura  posible del espacio interior y ha dejado vista la estructura en donde esta tenía un valor espacial. Como telón de fondo de lo anterior, se ha colocado un suelo de tarima de roble blanquecino a toda la casa.

Una casa que está tensada por dos estancias principales en sus extremos: el estar frente al museo y una cocina luminosa que aprovecha una claraboya y unos huecos altos existentes.
