This house is built on a hilly terrain accommodating of an existing dwelling. During construction, the existing house, which adjoins the building-line, remained occupied. The old house was pulled down only after its inhabitants moved to the new house. In order to manage this and also to achieve the maximum amount of contact between the garden and the new house, the latter was built as near to the back-building line as possible. This allows for optimal use of the great width of this plot, resulting in a linear volume at ground level, consisting of a juxtaposition of various domestic functions, a couple of covered terraces and the children’s sleeping area. On top of this layer, a smaller volume is positioned at a right angle in order to stretch the house right to the building line, which was a requirement in order to be able to build right up to the back building line. This volume at right angles accommodates the parents’ night time quarters and also serves as a carport and a sheltered entry. Underneath the carport, an underground wellness area is provided with natural light from a patio. After the demolition of the existing house, the swimming pool and the garden wall were finalised.
