How to revitalize „the“ main tavern of a small rural town, so that its character is preserved and the address becomes a meeting place for all ages?
After the long-time iconic owner of the Gasthaus died, the beneficiaries wanted to lease the building. They found the perfect match - a well-known bar keeper with ideas and a clientele ready for something special in the valley. The concept is to offer a breakfast and coffee bar with a special gift and tobacco shop during the day. At night time the rooms become a bar with the option to turn into a small cinema or concert room.
For this the kitchen had to be adapted to current standards and some small adaptions had to be done for fire safety. The main work was to renovate the building without losing the patina and its characteristic qualities from 70 years of drinking, discussing and partying. We call it the invisible architecture.
The façade and the windows got washed and newly painted. The old garden got reactivated and a new side entrance got cut into the south façade. The main anchor is the new bar with a black counter toped of spruce wood. The bar is in the centre of the room, that is where the meeting and the conversation starts and somewhen ends. As it has been and will be.
