This apartment, located in central Ramat Gan, a city just a few minutes from Tel Aviv, Israel, received a powerful and yet elegant renovation by interior designer Maya Sheinberger. She designed it for a young family of four, a couple and their two teenage sons, who wished for an open space that will allow them to express their love for cooking and entertaining. The apartment is 130 m² and was originally built in the 1970’s, the bedrooms were renovated a few years ago, therefore were not included in the current project.

The designer envisioned an intimate and inviting open space that will maintain a minimalistic and monochromatic style, while incorporating and emphasizing the original stone wall in the living room. The public area of the apartment was entirely rebuilt and the textured stone wall was preserved as is, in order to make it main feature in the new design. The entrance, a door made out of wood and steel, splits the house into two areas - on the right hand side are the private rooms and on the left hand side are the public areas, including the kitchen, dining table and living room.

Large tiles in a concrete like texture cover the floor of the public space. The kitchen was designed in two parallel lines, one incorporates the sink and the refrigerator and the other incorporates the stove and additional countertop space for cooking, as well as a casual dining area for day-to-day family meals. Dark grey tones with natural textures, mimicking concrete and steel, were chosen for the cabinets and kitchen island.

Parallel to the kitchen is the dining table. It stands in the middle of the space, so the designer chose a glass table top with a stainless steel base, above it is a lighting fixture made out of dark grey glass spheres that are connected through black steel pipes.

The stone wall in the living room creates a wild and natural texture and serves as a focal point in the space. In order to create a design that flatters and works alongside it, the designer chose to use geometric and modern patterns that add some quite drama to the space while keeping a contemporary look. Two custom made pieces were designed and manufactured especially for this project - the cabinet underneath the TV, which is made out of steel and walnut wood, and the built in bar on the edge of the space, that is hidden behind large and white doors with a minimalistic pattern.

In the bathroom, the bathtub was replaced with a large and luxurious shower and a wooden bench, which was also custom made for this project, as well as the cabinet underneath the sink.
