A place where you can be child again: Pappa is the Comfort Food Restaurant opened in Bari last year 2017, where a lively nostalgic atmosphere, typically Fifties, recalls  childhood experiences during lunch and dinner.
In the heart of the Old Town of Bari, the project by SMALL-Soft Metropolitan Architecture & Landscape Labarchitecture office, realized in collaboration with Diorama- atelier of architecture and design, is a welcoming and informal place, where the ancient taste of the territory is combined with the exuberant colors of the Italian kitchen: "tomato-red" dyed furnishings, the typical aqua green of the vintage Italian school desks layering the surfaces, while the walls are inspired by the traditional ceramic coverings, although being realized in fablab with wood panels engraved with numerical control mill, as in tribute to the ancient use of the room, originally a carpentry shop.
Inside a 19th-Century building built entirely of local stone, between 'chianche'floor and tufa vaults, the spirited design of the mid-century bursts vitally and ironically into the pugliese constructive tradition, combining seats inspired by Jean Prouvé’s iconic chair with custom-made coffee tables reminiscent of place mats; the lamps on the walls - made by reinterpreting vintage suspensions - take the shape of megaphones for wire broadcasting, while the framed logos and graphics take us back to the symbol advertising of the economic boom of the 50’s and 60’s in Italy.
At the back of the room the counter captures the scene. Imagined as a huge toy, the counter is characterized in the lower part by a colorful pattern that seems to follow the first attempts of writing made with felt-tip pens, while at the top a gigantic abacus illuminates the desk.
A series of lamps, with enamelled plates as lampshades, are fixed to a turquoise micro-perforated metal sheet that allows to hide the systems without damaging the old vault. A playful atmosphere, the paradox of an upside-down laid table overhead changes the guest's perspective.
The synergy between the two young architecture studios has been combined with the childish taste of the brand design created by FF3300visual ad studio, made up of details, colors and textures that blend perfectly with the furnishings, giving life to an immersive and delicately nostalgic project, cured up to the smallest details.
Pappa is a place where, with a work that starts from the raw material, tapas are proposed that embrace the traditional Mediterranean cuisine, combined with international flavors; born from the experience of a team of the most prepared in Italy in the field of mixing alcohol and beverage, this restaurant offers a complete experience combining delicious dishes and always the right glass of wine.
Pappa follows the success of the “BIT - Bloom in town” restaurant, opened in Molfetta at the beginning of last year proposing unexpected graphics, attention to details and architectural solutions that enhance the historical background.
