The Ixi'im Restaurant comprises the re-use of the engine house of an old henequen farm, whose productive splendor in the second half of the 19th century and subsequent decline in the second half of the 20th century has generated new uses for our built cultural heritage. The site consists of several independent structures, including the engine room, which shape the public space or main square. A north - south axis connects, since its original use, the main set of the hacienda with other nearby settlements. The proposal starts by establishing a pause in this circulation through a subtle threshold that contains virtually the space of access to ruin. Referring to the original activity and its industrial elements, the intervention strategy is materialized in a large metallic enclosure that weaves, through the preexisting building, the new architectural program. This articulating frame, whose internal offset liberates the existing walls from structural responsibility, generates a new interstitial space of dialogue between heritage and intervention. At the same time, it allows the filtering of indirect natural light, thermally confining the interior and supporting the display of the largest collection of crafted liquors in the country. Produced by the last active rope factory in Yucatan, the suspended henequén strings in the interior, besides their acoustic function, they witness the material that gave origin to the building. The spatial sequence allows the visitor to transit between epochs, finishing in the contemporary addition, whose physical and visual integration with the main square and its components closes a cycle of respect and belonging.

El Restaurante Ixi’im comprende la reutilización de la casa de máquinas de una antigua hacienda henequenera, cuyo esplendor productivo en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y posterior decadencia en la segunda mitad del siglo XX ha generado nuevos usos para nuestro patrimonio cultural edificado. El conjunto hacendario está constituido por varias estructuras independientes, entre ellas la casa de máquinas, que conforman el espacio público o plaza principal. Un eje norte - sur conecta, desde su origen, el casco principal de la hacienda con otros asentamientos cercanos. La propuesta parte de establecer una pausa en dicha circulación mediante un umbral sutil que contiene virtualmente el espacio de acceso a la ruina. Haciendo referencia a la actividad original y a sus elementos industriales, la estrategia de intervención se materializa en un gran cerramiento metálico que teje a través de las preexistencias el nuevo programa arquitectónico. Este marco articulador, cuyo desfasamiento interior libera a los muros existentes de la responsabilidad estructural, genera un nuevo espacio intersticial de diálogo entre patrimonio e intervención. A la vez, permite filtrar la luz natural indirecta, confinando térmicamente el interior y brindando soporte al despliegue de la colección de bebidas artesanales más grande del país. Producidas por la última cordelería activa de Yucatán, las sogas de henequén suspendidas al interior, además de cumplir una función acústica, son testigos del material que dio origen al edificio. La secuencia espacial permite transitar entre épocas, rematando en la adición contemporánea, cuya integración física y visual con la plaza principal y sus componentes cierra un ciclo de respeto y pertenencia.
