The Vatican Temple. Carlo Fontana in 1694 | Map Studio
Venice / Italy / 2003
The project of the exhibition " The Vatican Temple. Carlo Fontana in 1694" in the church of S. Maurizio in Venice is organized according to the nature of the exhibited object: the complete set of seventy-nine original plates engraved by Alessandro Specchi and designed by Carlo Fontana, iconography of the Treaty " Il Tempio Vaticano e sua origine. Con gli edifici più cospicui antichi, e moderni fatti dentro, e fuori di esso ", which the Swiss architect published in Rome in 1694 from the printer G.F. Buagni.
We felt it was important - since we had a whole series of engravings in a non-bound version - to highlight the possibility of "walking" through the pages of the book.
For this reason, one of the first choices was to homologate - apart from the five large plants of S. Pietro - the height of the frames within which all prints are presented, placing the same distance between the frames and thus obtaining a large band, a sort of continuous and homogeneous strip long the entire exhibition. The text of the different sections, is printed directly on the wood fence, and it has the task of identifying the different parts of the Treaty for visitors.
