Palatina is a small palace built in the centre of Lisbon in the mid-20th century according to a plan designed by Architect Carlos Rebelo de Andrade in the Português Suave style.
Originally conceived to serve the purpose of a single family residence, the building was converted into four distinct apartments earlier this century. Apartment Palatina II takes up the penultimate floor and the attics of the mansion, formerly service areas and the living quarters for household staff – maids quarters, laundry, ironing and seamstress rooms.

Through the means of a restricted scope of intervention, the project sought to modernise and upgrade the apartment.
With a very low ceiling height, the kitchen was fully restructured, opening up a new window over the workbench area. The wall separating the living room – formerly interior – from the dining room was eliminated.

The design and installation of a feature, in carpentry, divided the disproportionate entrance area and providing for a small hallway, a generous bookshelf and a technical wardrobe.
The staircase leading up to the attics, formerly contained within walls, was unveiled and integrated into this same carpentry system that interlinks the various sections of this intervention. Furthermore, in the attic, the walls that had hidden the wooden structure were eliminated and thus taking due advantage of the amplitude of this raised space.
