EverGreen fingerfood bar (Corfù project) | Marco Rucci
2004-2006 (renovation) Corfu / Greece / 2004
The EverGreen bar is a poetical space where the light, the colours and the shapes
speak of multiplicity, possibilities and diversities finally together under a wish that
won’t ever be consumed.
The main concept it was to reject the traditional signboard, expanding its
dimensions over the whole façade, thus, making it the logo of the bar: the E and G
of the trade-name therefore become the threshold through which to move from a
literal space (conceptual) to a physical one( architectonic).
The need to exalt the relationship with the customer over the road, as it’s used by
the typical Greek town “coffees”, has been decisive to generate a strong sense of
continuity the inner and the outer spaces; the coffee’s red “Corian” bancalina
and stainless steel counter, windingly, move along the three dimensions from the
inside and the outside, envelop and arrange together the duties of the chef, the
barman and the customers and, finally, with this experience conquer the fourth
dimension.
The release of the corner from any formal solution makes the connection between
the street and the square even more immediate and allows the passer-by to
perceive instantly the Kostas Georgakis dedicated sculpture.
Outdoor-indoor continuity, wall-pavement ambiguity, chromatic dynamism given
from the multiplicity of strongly photo-sensitive materials, work together in the
effort to give a wide spaciousness to the only 30 square meters at disposal where
every single element has been designed in full.
The materials as the stainless steel, the glass, the orange resin and the vitreous
“tesserae”, kindly tinge the bar with colours and evanescent images which change
from time to time and belong to the surroundings and the old town; furthermore
the many green shades are a gift to the infinite traces the Corfu’s landscape offers
even though they are overrun by the unique “national green” widely used in the
isle’s building( maybe a necessity of synthesis!).
The green colours of the “Evergreen” are the memories of Corfu, they are the
colours that don’t want to be forever the same( it’s enough to enter the bar and
look at the leaf-fall…), they are postcards, free thoughts, different subject and
layer-by-layer painted emotions like as a need of living memories, meaningful
traces, before everything get confused, everything get the same colour.
