Cbus Super’s Adelaide office is located in a prime, high exposure location within Cbus Properties landmark 50 Flinders Street development.

Accessed directly from the building’s main lobby, the fitout was designed to showcase the industry that Cbus represents; the construction industry.

The design is dramatic, an intentionally dark reception area with feature lighting and high quality finishes including a 3metre high curved “moss wall” which catches the eye of passers by both inside the building and from the street outside.

The beautiful natural blue stone flooring of the foyer was continued into the tenancy’s reception area allowing the reception area not only to appear larger, but to allow a harmonious transition from one space to the other. This is also a discrete reference to the link between Cbus Super and Cbus Property.

Once inside the space, all of the existing and new building services are exposed, and the new built works take advantage of the 4.5m high volume. Pendant lighting and considered alignment of the new glazing, veneered wall panelling and the “moss wall” draw your eye down to a more intimate height to balance the large volume.

Within the member corridor a one-of-a-kind scaffold structure references construction site works, and a scaffold pylon cantilevers decorative blue glass light pendants over the reception desk.

Beyond the reception and members interface area the open plan workspace is located to maximise access to natural light via the shopfront glazing. A circular meeting pod complete with velvet curtain and curved veneer door on an industrial exposed track system integrates with the architecture of the base building. Both this meeting pod and member hubs are the only spaces to have ceilings due to confidentiality and acoustic requirements.

Within the open plan space the pod of 6 workstations are grounded by a colour graduated carpet tile, a suspended acoustic ceiling and LED task lighting. Offering work style flexibility to staff, a standing work space encapsulates a raw white concrete base building column.

To the rear of the tenancy, a ‘tunnel’ transitions the volumes of the tenancy and conceals both the communications rack and base building service connections. A polished concrete floor finish aesthetic was achieved using sheet vinyl, whilst the black sink and tapware set off against a moss green wall to create an inviting space despite the lack of any natural light.

The final product showcases a host of construction techniques and offers a unique and inviting environment for staff and members.
