The municipality of Travacò Siccomario (PV) launched in 2013 a competition for the design of a new civic centre, which includes a City Hall, Auditorium, Library and public spaces for citizens.
The project area is located close to a public park, at the end of the main urban route of this small town from which the whole city is built. Taking advantage of this urban condition, the project resumes the idea of the Roman Campidoglio, an administrative place typical of the Italian tradition, where three main buildings (city hall, library and auditorium) are located around an elevated square, which is the real city center and the main city's public space. The square is accessed via a large central staircase and lateral ramps. Below the square floor there are archive rooms which connect all the buildings, guaranteeing complete independence for the public spaces above. This allows individual buildings to be built separately and at different times, as required by the call. Each building of the Civic Centre has a different design and it’s located along directions of surrounding streets.
Sustainability and energy efficiency are guaranteed by low power plant systems and by installing photovoltaic panels on the roof and the coverage of the metal porch beside the square which provides shelter for the wearers and connection between buildings levels with the emergency stair.
