UP GRA[d]TE

The new building has to represent the Faculty of Architecture not only on the campus but also in the city of Dresden like a urban up grade. It creates an inspiring atmosphere to study in an appropriate spatial setting and gives back this space to the community of Dresden.
For creating this new space for architects we chose to organize functions in a vertical program: this action let us to simplify the management of spaces.
The first step was to ensure the permeability in all directions at the ground floor, creating walkways and natural oasis to direct people to the main entrances of institutes and to central public square.
So, the ground floor has been designed to provide several activities, like a public garden.
The second step was to define a grid to organize the new building structure in plans and elevation, fix a new zero level lifted up with respect to the groung and separating the institute in different build guarantee a connection between them.
The last step was to create a link between a new urban space and a private space for students; we have designed a cover to protect the activities to the ground and connect among them the new buildings, thus creating an inspiring atmosphere to live and study.
