In 2016 the Gulag History Museum was donated a collection of works by Karl Eimermacher. The museum collection of the painter’s 10 assemblages has been supplemented with 82 more art objects dedicated to persecutions and violence.

Karl Emermacher’s works represent his personal interpretation and reflections on the causes of world wars, genocide and mass political repressions that had catastrophic consequences for humankind in the 20th century. Some art objects scare and frighten while others appease and calm. Through expressive means the artist wants to convey the depth of pain, suffering and destruction that such phenomena bring to society. His main goal is to make the viewers feel compassion and personal involvement in history, focus their attention on fragility of human life, vulnerability of nature, continuity of generations all of which are meant to reinforce the traditional moral values in society.

Each object looks like a model of a monument to the victims of repression and violence. I emphasized this when choosing the demonstration of the exhibit. Each of them is special,
impressive and unique, it requires a neutral environment for pure and focused perception. Therefore, in the design of space and podiums, one approach was chosen - a neutral gray color and texture of the plaster. At the same time, the light is deliberately sharp and theatrical, it plays along with themes and creates tension.
