In Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, a young married couple, both professional fashion designers, decided to renovate an old craftsmen’s house to create a new living space. The site is only four metres wide, making it a challenge to renovate this old building, which lets in very little light. The architects removed all unnecessary elements from the former house, keeping only the two massive brick walls at the boundary of the property, which are strong enough to support the whole building. A glass façade brings light into the rooms, and weightless horizontal concrete slabs were installed to replace the previous wooden covers. The internal walls are painted white to create a clean and light environment, and the many plants inside the house create a homely feeling for the whole family. “This house means everything to us”, say the owners, who can finally enjoy their home. The “Lee & Tee House” is a good example of how it is possible to save resources thanks to the robust, durable, and versatile nature of bricks.
