Stazzo d’Aldia | Altromodoarchitects

Designing in Sardinia means dealing with a landscape characterized by the Mediterranean shrubland, lagoons and jagged coasts, but also with an ancient tradition of elementary rural buildings: “lo stazzo”, stone house made of a linear sequence of single rooms, each open on the outside, separated by enclosed walls and with slooping roof.

This small realization, 200 meters from the sea, is a contemporary reinterpretation of that typical rural building of Gallura. Like the ancient coastal “stazzi”, in a dominant position on a hill, close to the lagoon and the beach, the project provides an elemental development of rectangular units covered by slooping roofs, positioned along the north-south axis, with few and small breachs on the long sides oriented east and west.

The partition of the house into several units and the detachment of them allows to "catch" the landscape, causing intermediate spaces: a closed patio on two sides, centered between the living and the sleeping areas, provides its part of nature and represents the heart of the outside life of the house.The simple and linear facades, made of granite in various colors, have on the two gables of the living room large backword glass walls wide open on the landscape. Compared to the “stazzo” type, which strictly closed the north and south prospects, this is the most evident breakthrough solution.

The pure and elementary view of the building is strengthened by the few materials used - corten, stone, plaster and cotto tiles on the roof - and by single recurring elements such as guttered canals.

Progettare in Sardegna vuol dire confrontarsi con un paesaggio caratterizzato dalla macchia mediterranea, dalle lagune e dalle coste frastagliate ma anche con una tradizione antica di costruzioni elementari a carattere rurale: lo stazzo, casa di pietra fatta di una sequenza lineare di stanze singole, ciascuna aperta sull’esterno, separate da muri chiusi e con copertura a doppia falda.

Questa piccola realizzazione, a 200 metri dal mare, è una reinterpretazione contemporanea di quella costruzione rurale tipica della Gallura. Come gli antichi stazzi costieri in posizione dominante su di una collina a ridosso della laguna e della spiaggia, il progetto prevede uno sviluppo elementare di corpi rettangolari coperti con tetti a falda, posizionati lungo l’asse nord-sud, con poche e ridotte bucature sui prospetti lunghi orientati ad est ed ovest.

La scomposizione della casa in più corpi e lo sfalsamento degli stessi permette di “accogliere “il paesaggio al suo interno, determinando luoghi intermedi: un patio chiuso su due lati, al centro tra la zona giorno e la zona notte, fornisce all'edificio la sua parte di natura e costituisce il cuore della vita esterna della casa. I fronti semplici e lineari, realizzati in granito di varie tonalità, presentano sui due timpani del soggiorno grosse vetrate arretrate ed aperte sul paesaggio esterno. Rispetto alla tipologia stazzo, che conservava rigorosamente chiusi i prospetti a nord e sud, è la più evidente soluzione di rottura.

La visione pura ed elementare dell’edificio è rafforzata dai pochi materiali utilizzati - corten, pietra, intonaco e lastre di cotto in copertura - e da singoli elementi ricorrenti come i canali di gronda incassati.
