COS is pleased to reveal Loop, an installation by New York-based design studio Snarkitecture, now open to the public until 19 November at the Gana Art Center in Seoul, South Korea.
The installation is a sequence of four distinct metal tracks which curve throughout a white exhibition space, creating an intertwined path. Using precision engineering, the sculpture is brought to life by the steady hum of 100,000 marbles, with one marble introduced every five seconds. The installation embodies the interdisciplinary nature of Snarkitecture’s practice across art, design and architecture, and creates a multi-sensory experience for visitors.

The marbles, formed in white glass, proceed along 400 metres of track in a light blue powder-coated aluminium to an adjoining space, forming a scattered sea of thousands.
Daniel Arsham, Snarkitecture co-founder commented: “Our intention was to create a contemplative environment with Loop – a space that was not immediately understood upon entering. While we wanted the design to be playful, we were mindful of creating a work that provided an escape. It was important to offer a setting and feeling that were completely new and inspiring to visitors.”

Alex Mustonen, Snarkitecture co-founder, added: “In conceiving this project, our third with COS, we wanted to offer visitors an experience that combines the values and sensibility of the brand with our perspective and approach. It is a legacy we are developing together and we hope the project offers visitors an interactive and memorable experience.”

The COS x Snarkitecture installation is open between 10am-7pm every day at the Gana Art Center, located in the Pyeongchang-dong area of the city, known for its arts and culture. The exhibition centre was designed by Jean-Michel Wilmotte and is surrounded by the Bugak mountains.

“To collaborate once again with Snarkitecture is to celebrate our aim to form long-term exchange with the creative talent that inspires us, at COS. Daniel and Alex have created an impressive and inspiring work of art which draws on what we do, but also gives us the chance to reflect on their point of view. I am so pleased to invite the people of Seoul and the city’s visitors to the exhibition this month,” said Karin Gustafsson, Creative Director of COS.

A small-scale model of the installation will also be available to view at the COS Cheongdam store, 418 Apgujeongro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, for the duration of the opening.
