13-ACRES INTERNATIONAL DESIGN COMPETITION

 
Submission Deadline: April 20, 2001 

Rethink the schoolyard. Enter your design ideas for a combined park and schoolyard landscape within a newly planned sustainability demonstration site in Surrey, BC. Proposals should inspire exploration, empathy, free play, interpretation, revelation, ecological awareness, and experiential learning.

The competition is open internationally to professionals and students. Interdisciplinary groups involving landscape architects and people who work with children are encouraged. 

The jury includes Peter Latz, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, Gina Crandell, Mark Francis, Irene Cinq-Mars, Mark Dudek and Susan Herrington. Local representatives from Surrey will also be part of the jury process. 

First prize is $15,000, Second Prize is $10,000 and Third Prize is $5,000. 

Registration opens September 1, 2000. Entries will be received between March 1 and April 20, 2001. Winners will be announced May 14, 2001. 

Current UBC students, faculty and staff are ineligible.
