Crematorium | Studio Metrica

The project concerns the design of the crematory temple and the cemetery park at the Cimitero di Chiesanuova, a small province of Prato. Today, our daily universe starts up towards a chaotic and strongly individual future. In this chaos we need a point of reference, that is human being in its total complexity. During the daily life the man moves from one space to another, passing from the streets with noises and people, into churches, calm and quiet, and where he arrives climbing a step or going beyond a threshold. Cremators, among funerary architectures, are the ones that emphasize the threshold or limit character. Man, as a human presence, passes through sacred and profane places in his life to end in a sacred enclosure. The project seeks to keep the material and the immaterial together and it is subdivided into three fundamental themes; Space, so the crematory temple representing the material part, and the Time and the Spirit, which constitute the immaterial.
