ENG - The brief: Design a restaurant with a contemporary style that respects the Italian tradition. The result: Our interiors for this small design-driven restaurant in Parma

Parma, one of UNESCO’s ‘Creative Cities of Gastronomy’, is a natural fit for the new restaurant AL BACIO, a sparkling, innovative new member of the LAGO INTERIOR LIFE NETWORK. The owners, passionate about cooking and always in search of new trends and interpretations, asked us to create a design-driven restaurant for people who love good Italian taste, in the kitchen and beyond: an aesthetically appealing space, but also practical and fun for the people who bring it to life.

With the goal of harmonising the restaurant interiors with the owners’ innovative spirit, we interpreted the space through references to the key elements of their vision: quality, vitality, innovation, conviviality, sharing and a home-like feeling.

The design challenge was to create an innovative Parma restaurant in a very small space. Our winning solution for this limitation was to pair furniture suspended on glass and a pale colour palette, a combination that reflects the light that comes in from the large windows and gives the space depth and a feeling of lightness.

Designed to foster conviviality and sharing, the restaurant has the appearance of being divided into two spaces: at the entrance, next to the reception desk, we set up a long Wildwood counter that can accommodate up to ten people and leads to an Air bookcase, which we put in the centre of the room to divide the space with lightness. In the other half, Wildwood benches and colourful Air tables, which even have pockets for tablets, run along the entire perimeter of the space, welcoming diners and inviting them to put a premium on the relationships and flavours that ‘happen’ around the furniture. The restaurant interior, designed to foster sharing, is completed with a special app, accessible to all, which lets everyone engage in a playful exchange that is at once both digital and physical.

The life flowing around the furniture is framed by majolica-patterned wallpaper, a nod to the Italian tradition, and panels in bold, lively colours that come down from the ceiling. Non poteva che essere a Parma, città riconosciuta dall’UNESCO come Città creativa per la Gastronomia, il nuovo ristorante AL BACIO, frizzante e innovativa location del LAGO INTERIOR LIFE NETWORK. I proprietari, amanti della cucina e sempre alla ricerca di nuove tendenze e interpretazioni, ci hanno chiesto di progettare un ristorante di design per gli amanti del buon gusto italiano, in cucina e non solo: uno spazio esteticamente bello, ma anche funzionale e divertente per chi lo anima.

Con l’obiettivo di accordare il progetto di interior del ristorante all’innovativo spirito dei proprietari, abbiamo interpretato lo spazio richiamando gli elementi chiave della loro visione: qualità, vivacità, innovazione, convivialità, condivisione, home-feeling.

La sfida progettuale era dare forma all’innovativo ristorante parmigiano, esprimendo il tutto in uno spazio di metratura ridotta. Ideale per ovviare a questo limite si è rivelato l’accostamento di arredi sospesi su cristalli e di tinte pastello: una combinazione capace di riflettere la luce che entra dalle ampie vetrate e di conferire così all’ambiente profondità e leggerezza.

Organizzato per favorire convivialità e condivisione, il locale appare diviso in due aree: all’ingresso, affianco alla reception, un lungo bancone in legno Wildwood che può ospitare fino a 10 persone corre nello spazio fino ad una libreria Air, posizionata al centro del locale per dividere l’ambiente con leggerezza. Nella seconda metà, lungo tutto il perimetro del locale, panche in legno Wildwood e tavoli air colorati e attrezzati con una tasca per i tablet, accolgono gli ospiti invitando a dare peso alle relazioni e ai sapori che si vivono attorno ad essi. A completare l’interior, pensata proprio per favorire la condivisione, una app del ristorante accessibile a tutti, permette di interagire con gli altri, in uno scambio giocoso, fisico e digitale allo stesso tempo.

A fare da cornice alla vita attorno agli arredi una carta da parati a maioliche richiama la tradizione italiana mentre dal soffitto scendono pannelli dai colori decisi e vivaci. Il piccolo ristorante di design è l’ideale per cene, pranzi e nuovi incontri: se passate per Parma, tappa consigliatissima.
