Upper middle class elegance in the heart of downtown Budapest / Hungary

While renovating the almost 100 sqm, two-bedroom apartment, our most important task was to stay faithful to the building’s elegant, classical style, so we wanted to incorporate both modern furniture and the antique furniture passed down from the owners’ grandparents.

In the interior spaces, we deliberately emphasized the upper middle class nature of the building, which later became the main characteristic of the apartment.

The black and white checked floor in the hall and Ellie Cashman’s floral wallpaper give you a hint of a very interesting beginning. The flower pattern of the wallpaper plays an important role beyond the hall as well, for example on the wall behind the bed in the bedroom and on the glass of the bathroom.

Thanks to the large windows, there is a lot of natural light in the living room, so we chose a daring dark grey color for this space. The owner found it important to create the center of the apartment in the living room, so we wanted the kitchen and the dining room to match the community room’s visual elements without disrupting the overall picture. With coffered panels, we could perfectly hide the elements built into the wall.
The stone tablet with marble effect behind the kitchen counter travelled to Nagymező street from Italy, to become the most prominent and spectacular item in the living room.
Instead of design furniture, we chose to have custom tailored headboards over the double bed. Royal blue appears in most of the rooms, unifying the whole apartment in a special way.

The project was implemented by Nikoletti Petra and Tamás Hannus, on behalf of Térkultúra.
