MODERN ART MUSEUM at BERLIN
Berlin Berlin / Germany / 2015
The project plan is expressed in this way: the completion of the city by placing an L form mass that provides both a place to the secondary services of the museum which are the library, auditorium, administrative offices and a continuation to the spacial sequence which contains the system of monuments.
The museum is inserted as a topos at the intersection of this overlaping system as a threshold and manages the urban spaces.
The primary form is defined by geometric transformations, using the external vectors by reading the elements present in the urban structure, and historical paths. We have introduced the theme of the trajectory along the river as a beginning of the museum, and the theme of light through the horizontal gaps between the volumes to illuminate the double height exhibition spaces.
The contrast between interior and exterior spaces is perceived by the observer inside the museum.
As observer continues through the trajectory inside the museum which is guaranteed by the vertical dark voit, arrives to these elevated urban spaces in light where the city becomes an exhibition itself. As the volume of the museum arrives to the height of the city, it undergoes into a geometric transformation through the rotation of horizontal axis, to a longitudinal axis which emphasizes the overlapping of time.
Two operas of Mies van der Rohe are esposed in the top of the building, one of them is ending the composition and the other one is located towards to Friedrichstrasse.
The opera in this room is placed artificially into the landscape, the work seems to be inserted where it would be designed. The trajectory leads to the terrace with a panaromic iew where the observers are able to understand how the relationship between the Museuminsel, the Tiergarten and the volume of museum as a threshold of the city is presented.
