The project aims to redevelop the interior and exterior of the Galleria del Melgone at Mandello del Lario.
This tunnel is located inside Mount Moregallo, on the road SS583, which connects Lecco to Bellagio. For years it has been abandoned and looking for a new functional destination.
It has 11 ventilation holes that connect it to Lake Lecco.
The possibility of reusing the gallery has created the need to create an entrance structure that serves as a link between the surrounding natural environment and the interior spaces.
The project proposal for the exterior of the Galleria del Melgone includes a pedestrian path along the rock and the installation of 2 energy plants: one with algal biomass and another of photovoltaic cells with the function of powering the interior lighting of the gallery in which is expected to include a biology museum and a restaurant.
