Portuguese stone
This way of paving the sidewalks and squares was a significant legacy inherited by the Portuguese urbanism. It’s about a tradition that was used on large scale in Brazil and permeates the collective consciousness when we talk about the city of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to its emotional value, it is also responsible for the identity formation of great “Carioca” icons, such as the beach boardwalks of Ipanema and Copacabana.
When we analyze the object as a single thing, the stone illustrates the identity of the hometown of the designer, Rio. A metropolis that contrasts with a landscape of high and systematic buildings in opposite with the wild nature. If we think of the stone, it resembles the geometry of a cube, but its shape carries sinuosities and adaptations.
