MARBLE HOUSE | Openbox Architects

The design of the “Marble House” residential project, carried out by “Openbox Architects,” integrates the interior and exterior as an indivisible whole to interlace architecture with landscape starting from a large cube, with the essence of marble.

Thus, following the “Less is More” concept along with a deep attention to functional and aesthetic needs, it uses geometric shapes derived from the fragmentation of the cube to carry out the connections.

Structured into two levels, the imposing building is constructed with a robust stone base on which a large volume rests as if it were a light sculpture that defies gravity.

This large monolithic piece, designed with the essence of white flamed marble, intertwines with the materials of the various indoor spaces to enhance the expressiveness of the whole; stones, wood, metal beams, and black profiles result in connections where the setting provided by the double-heights gains great prominence.

Two heights where the priority was to organize the living area connected with a large window to the garden on the ground floor, and private rooms on the top floor with balconies and windows that maintain the privacy of the residents thanks to the various angular volumes that, in turn, take advantage of the natural light.

With a solid and yet light look, one of the project’s main points of interest is the use of URBATEK – PORCELANOSA Grupo’s XLIGHT thin porcelain tiles as the material that organizes the covering of the whole.

It is a material that has allowed for the continuity of the facade in angled volumes that connect with the interior, adapting at all times to the shape’s needs in order to create an eco-efficient project that stands out due to its uniqueness and singularity.

El discurso del proyecto residencial “Marble House” realizado por “Openbox Architects” integra interiores y exteriores como un todo indivisible para entrelazar la arquitectura con el paisaje a partir de un gran cubo con la esencia del mármol.

Así, siguiendo el concepto “Menos es más” junto con una profunda consideración de las necesidades funcionales y estéticas, utiliza formas geométricas a partir de la fragmentación del cubo para realizar las conexiones.

Estructurado en dos niveles, el imponente edificio se articula a partir de una robusta base de piedra sobre la que se expande un gran volumen como si se tratara de una liviana escultura que desafía la gravedad.

Esta gran pieza monolítica proyectada con la esencia del mármol blanco flameado se entrelaza con los materiales de los distintos espacios interiores para potenciar la expresividad del todo; piedras, maderas, bigas metálicas y perfilerias en negro, dan lugar a conexiones donde cobran gran protagonismo en la escenografía que otorgan las dobles alturas.

Orientada hacia la zona del jardín, la vivienda se protege de los cambios de temperatura utilizando materiales impermeables como cobertura además de la distribución de los ventanales de forma que no permita la entrada de luz directa y lucernarios que facilitan la ventilación.

Dos alturas cuya prioridad fue organizar en la planta baja la zona de día conectada al jardín exterior con un gran ventanal, y en la planta superior, espacios privados con balcones y ventanales que mantienen la privacidad de los habitantes gracias a los diferentes volúmenes angulares que a su vez se aprovechan la luz natural.

Con apariencia sólida y a la vez tan ligero, uno de los puntos de mayor interés del proyecto es la utilización del gres porcelánico de fino espesor XLIGHT de URBATEK – PORCELANOSA Grupo como materia a partir de la cual se organiza la cobertura del conjunto.

Una materia que ha permitido la continuidad de la fachada exterior en volúmenes angulosos que conectan con el interior, adaptándose en todo momento a las necesidades de la forma para crear un proyecto que destaca por su unicidad y singularidad.
