In an emblematic house of the Center of Madrid, next to the Place of Spain, constructed by the Architect and gardener of King Alfonso XIII in 1890, this apartment of 75 m2 is located.
It is a North-facing, completely rectangular floor [10.90x7.10] divided lengthwise by a load-bearing wall made of wood. What we found was a house of 6 rooms attached to both sides of the loading wall, hiding it, organized according to a perimeter circulation that forced to cross one room to access the next and leaving half without natural lighting.
Our intervention is simple: it consists of recovering the load wall as the organizing axis for the uses of the new dwelling, for which we eliminate the interior divisions. In this way we enhance the protagonism of this wall, leaving sight and rehabilitated part of the structure of wood and opening strategic gaps that allow us to illuminate the most distant spaces of the facade: the load wall no longer divides but unites (the kitchen with The living-dining room, the multipurpose space with the living room, the bath-dressing room with the bedroom). It is present and essential.
The program (young, single and autonomous woman) consists of a large social space of hall-kitchen-dining-room suitable for dinners, parties meetings or rest in the few hours of stay in the house. A multipurpose space, as if it were a public building, where 9 m2 can be converted into a studio, gym, storage area, guest room, ironing area and what the future holds. Finally the intimate area of the house in the farthest part of the access, without doors that make it independent, where are located the bathroom, dressing room and bedroom.
We use few high-quality materials in contrast to the existing: all in white on the new solid hardwood floor of aged rustic oak of wide mud.
