In 2010, Paris Musees launches a consultation for the design of the exhibition “L’oeil en Eventail – Charlotte Perriand” at the Petit Palais museum. Through the presentation of 450 works of various kinds (modern prints, vintage prints, documents, furniture, etc.), the objective of the exhibition was to reveal an unknown facet of the architect and designer of space.

On entering the Hall Jacqueau, the visitor sees, 25 m ahead and on-axis, a portrait of Charlotte Perriand. Impregnated with the image of her face, deep and light, the eye moves across the creations arranged on both sides of the central aisle.

Metal mesh frames form a vertical and horizontal grid. Initially, the objects appear via transparency, as if filtered by an image or a veil, then it is discovered in its entirety, detached from reality by the dematerialization of the base. It finally appears in shadow on a veil, a sign, a photo.

The photos that line the peripheral walls give a deep perspective that expands the space. A color scheme inspired by the artist’s work comes together to balance the dominant black and white composition.

The combination of rectangles and squares of color and black lines of the lattice is a large-scale translation of a state of mind and approach that characterizes the work of Charlotte Perriand. The game of perception takes place in all dimensions.
Unbuilt project.
