The brief for the redesign of this one bedroom plus study apartment at Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach, was to simplify and modernise, whilst retaining character and bring about an organic feeling.
Curved doorways and dark timber architraves where the first thing to go. The original ceilings and floors were left in place to retain texture. The floors were simply sanded and lime washed, and the client was happy to embrace any remaining imperfections.
The modest sized but light-filled kitchen manages to accommodate both a dishwasher and washing machine – two things that were not negotiable for this client. Ivory coloured joinery in a matte finish was paired with Caesarstone’s Organic White, which has an almost sea-foam texture.
The large sofa by SP01 helps zone the living space and evoke a sense of coziness in what is a very light and airy space.
This client requested that although a coastal aesthetic was desired, they did not want a palette of cool whites and blues. With this in mind, a clay wall colour was paired with off-white linen roman blinds and curtains.
Furnishings were kept to a minimum to suit this client’s minimalist aesthetic. Instead, a focus on quality statement pieces results in an uncluttered space that still has a clear personality.
