The site is occupied by an old barn, impressive in the scale of its interior space, its stone walls, and its arched windows. The project was developed between two poles: the need to divide the space to meet the four-room housing program and the desire to maintain the old barn’s scale and presence. The perimeter wall and original openings are maintained, while two rectangular concrete slabs built in the interior host the program, freeing the exterior walls.
On the ground floor, an open winding wall converges or diverges from the perimeter according to the amount of light present, forming the living room, the kitchen, the study, and the playroom for the children. On the first floor, however, the wall closes on itself to create the different rooms. These rooms are connected with the exterior by interior balconies made with scaffold planks.
