Taking place in the dynamic context of Shanghai Fashion Week, Greencode is week-long event which addresses the increasingly relevant topic of sustainability in the field of fashion and design with a focus on young Chinese talents.

Traditionally, fashion shows happen in enclosed spaces which can only host a limited number of people, therefore becoming exclusive experiences. Choosing to adopt an inclusive approach, Q&A proposed instead an open layout which doesn’t rely on one specific center. During the day, both the outdoor and indoor spaces are accessible to all, while during the evening Catwalk shows and dinners access to the covered pavilion can be temporarily restricted.

Conceived as a modular and scalable structure and entirely built on-site in just four days, the temporal installation is composed by twelve reclaimed shipping containers and one multi-purpose space which altogether host a number of brands and companies showcasing their products alongside a variety of events, from conferences to music performances, from fashion shows to immersive dining.

The main mass of the building, defined by the as-found shipping containers, pays tribute to the frenetic nature of Shanghai as the world’s busiest port.

After its initial use the building will be entirely dismantled and recycled. The modular steel structure and the furniture will be stored until next season, some of the containers will return to their owner while others will host smaller pop-up Greencode events across China in the near future.
