Visitors entrance to the Museum is located on the north side of the building, through an enclosed and intentionally under-lit “tunnel” of a length of 20
meters - a passage from the contemporary time to past era. The main lobby follows - this is covered in white surfaces, it is spacious and brightly lit, with beams of natural light coming from the top of the building.
The polished interior surfaces of the “metallic” central volume, the wooden surfaces, combined with the staircase and the curved ramp overviewing the river, create quite a unique preparation area before the exhibition areas of the Museum.
The Permanent Exhibition Area, a space of double height, has an elevated bridge above the ground level, which provides a better view over the large exhibits. The beams of natural light from skylights above, remind the visitor of the exterior separated building volumes.
The interior envelope remains unique and at the same time neutral, so as not to undermine the exhibits.
Visitors, after walking the exhibition areas, go through the lobby to the Restaurant - Bar, and exit to the surrounding area, near the river.
White colour is prevalent, in order to diffuse natural light. Interior ceilings’ forms, the building’s roofing, the staircase, the ramp, the wooden cladding inside the auditorium etc.,all together create a prismatic interior envelope, which in combination with the natural light coming from the long skylights, create in its' turn, a minimal and unique atmosphere.
Laboratories and storage spaces are located on the lower level and are naturally lit through a glass roof.
The administrator building houses the offices as well as an archives room, and a library.
