The Container | JC Perreras
Tagaytay / Philippines / 2015
The Angkla Shipping Container is a temporary structure constructed along Tagaytay City's main road, used as a campaign office for the party list Angkla. Meaning anchor in English, Angkla supports all the Filipino sea men around the world. The structure's concept was to invoke a nautical theme to represent what the party list stands for.
After the campaign ended in early 2016, the office was converted to a store that sold homemade goods featuring products made by nuns in the adjacent convent.
The structure was originally designed as a shipping container to be pre-fabricated in a warehouse and delivered on site, but throughout the project's construction phase, it would have been a logistical nightmare to bring a 40-foot container on site. The solution was to build a prefabricated structure, much like temporary facilities in construction sites, which can be later on, taken down when the need arises.
