The Boilermaker is a drinking tradition of matching a beer to a whisky and imbibing, simultaneously creating a drinking experience greater than the sum of it’s parts. To honour and celebrate this tradition, Boilermaker House was born. It stocks over 600 whiskies, 12 rotating craft beer taps and has another 50 brews available by the can or bottle.

The heavy timber front door with the steel straps hints at the man cave within. The entry foyer which is a transition space between the busy street and the bar, also filters both the light and traffic noise from the street and sets the mood for what’s inside.

Surprise elements like suspended tables and tattoo graffiti sit alongside raised booth seating upholstered with tartan fabric to emulate a man’s working shirt. This is further complemented with a heavily stained walnut timber back rest and table tops with custom tartan motif inlayed in the timber table.

The brick walls double as a decorative element with random light fittings inserted in the cavities, and they also house the personalised beer mugs which can be purchased and kept locked in the cavity to use every time you return for more.

In the bar and dining area the plaster and paint layers were peeled back to reveal the concrete beams, columns and bones of the space.

The handles for the beer taps were inspired by old switchboard levers. Bronze pressed metal shines from the bar face with a moulded timber top and display shelves behind.

The four metre long custom-built meats and cheese bar with marble top bar comes with a selection of over 25 cured meats and nearly 30 cheeses which can be ordered by weight.

At the rear of the space there is a raised private dining area with theatrical red velvet curtains which is serviced by a full kitchen.

The Boilermaker House is the ultimate working class man’s watering hole and refuge, giving respite to the poor masculine soul from life’s daily demands.
