“Maximum roomy feeling in living space (Loft)” was the main requirement from our client, an engineer, art collector, and fan of advanced technology. The challenge was to create an open space where art and technology meet but still exude the feeling of a warm and cozy home.
We started with a blank slate, demolishing the old apartment and creating something new, a big open space integrating living, dining, master bedroom and guestroom (tatami) into one. Now the challenge was to have big surfaces to hang paintings on, so a sliding wall as well as a five (5)-meters long closet with big sliding doors, both with rails for paintings on top were the solutions.
An unexpected existing structure in the shape of a Y appeared during the demolition process, so we designed a built-in stainless steel bookshelf that divides the kitchen and the living room and effectively hiding the Y structure.
The fabric ceiling mounted in big panels and the Italian Stucco wall finishing are the main materials in the apartment, contrasting perfectly with the bamboo sliding wall and the tatami. The color tones were chosen in order to have an industrial but sophisticated atmosphere and highlight the pieces of art that our client will bring to his apartment. The apartment is furnished with a domotic system that controls lights, shades, temperature and security from a mobile phone.
