The building wants to open up to the city. A moving meander that takes up the sidewalk transforming it to
a Persian carpet that move in circular movements from the ground floor all the way to the top of the
building. A movement, that is the same as the one a carpet seller makes when he stacks up his carpets.
Symbol of infinity.
The ground floor is made in such a way as to be a continuation of the street and a clear invitation to visit
the building.
The vertical circulation is of primal importance in the project, through a system of staircases behind the
main façade it is possible to visit the whole building. The facade makes explicit this vertical movements and
makes it the leitmotiv of the project.
Structurally the building has a inner core with elevators and fire escape and all the service and technical
rooms that are needed in the building. This inner core takes up the vertical loads of the floors. The outer
façade bears itself through a all‐covering structural metal‐grid made as a Persian carpet. There are no
beams and columns in the classical sense.
We have chosen a spatial progress against the idée of linear route. The visitors never gets more than a
glimpse of the structure and its spaces. The building is not a list of spaces put in order but a moving everchanging
organism.
Ground floor:
The building open up on the ground floor and create inner space for public use. The entrance is set back
according to the street in such a way so as to accentuate the movement of the street in to the building. The
ground floor is divided up in three spaces, each one containing a commercial unit and a central staircase
that connects to the first floor that functionally is a continuation of this commercial units. This two floors
are thought of as one unique whole. The ground floor has also a main entrance that is the entrance to the
building as a whole with a information‐desk before one gets to the elevators that brings to the rest of the
building.
The office spaces:
From the second floor all the way up to the sixth floor there are the office floors. They are inside a two
stories room. All the floors have direct access to the center of the building where there are the vertical
connections to the rest of the building.
Apartments:
On the seventh and last floor there are the apartments of the complex. They are all inside one organic
form, with a living room, kitchen and bath and space for sleeping .
Parking:
Entrance to parking on the backside of the building. The parking is developed on 4 floors as asked for in the
program.
