Granny made its way from young designer’s Salone Satellite in Milan to the collection of Italian design company Casamania. Besides being a sustainable product Granny tells a story of childhood memories, remembering grandmothers knitting hats, gloves and jumpers to protect against cold winter weather.

Granny is a hand-knitted lamp made of pure new wool exclusively from Tyrolean mountain sheep. A whole lot of nature is assembled in this design object so deeply connected to images of cold winters and heated chalets. Woollen threads of extraordinary thickness are knitted to form a conical lamp shade making you think of woollen hats.

Granny is a product of social and ecological responsibility. Casamania has adopted not only the object but also the production chain attached to it. Exclusively wool washed and processed by a family run business in a remote valley in the Tyrol is used. This way the production of every single lamp shade can be tracked down to the flock of sheep on green alpine pastures.
