The project consists on the remodelling of an apartment built at the beginning of the 20th Century in a chamfered corner of the Eixample district in Barcelona. The original distribution unnecessarily divided the space far too much, creating many rooms which did not answer to the needs of the new owner. The original living room, located in the inner part of the flat and illuminated only through an inner yard, is moved towards the main façade and replaced by the new kitchen. The strategy of the project aims to expand the day-area from the access to the main façade, enchaining a series of spaces that concentrate the daily activity and thus eliminating the corridor. The main bedroom and the guests’ room have been placed on each side of the diagonal drawn out by the day-area, creating two equal, easy replaceable areas. The flat required a structural support of all load bearing walls as these presented several pathologies characteristic of the construction system of its period.

El proyecto consiste en la reforma de una vivienda construida a principios de siglo XX en un chaflán del Ensanche barcelonés. La distribución original compartimentaba excesivamente el espacio, generando muchas estancias que no respondían a las necesidades de la nueva propiedad. La sala de estar original, ubicada en el interior de la vivienda e iluminada a través de un patio interior, se desplaza hacia la fachada principal, ubicando en su lugar la nueva cocina. La estrategia de proyecto busca estirar la zona de día desde el acceso hasta la fachada principal, encadenando una serie de espacios que concentran la zona de día, y eliminando así el pasillo. El dormitorio principal y el de invitados se ubican a ambos lados de la diagonal generada por la zona de día, generando dos zonas equivalentes y fácilmente intercambiables. La vivienda necesitó un refuerzo estructural de todas las paredes de carga, que presentaban diversas patologías propias del sistema constructivo de la época.
