The T&L house occupies the third floor of a building from the Seventies, recently completely restored.
The plan of the apartment has an almost square shape. The overall surface is around 300 sqm.
The northern façade with a sequence of five big openings is facing an anthropized landscape, saturated with commercial and service buildings and crossed by a major traffic artery. From the south and west openings you can instead glimpse, between the recent constructed buildings, the river Ticino and the Monte Rosa mountain chain.
Opposite sides, different atmospheres.

Casa T&L occupa il terzo piano di una palazzina realizzata intorno agli anni Settanta e oggi completamente ristrutturata.
La pianta dell'appartamento ha una forma vicina al quadrato. La superficie complessiva è di circa 300 mq.
Il fronte nord si affaccia con una sequenza di 5 grandi aperture, su un paesaggio antropizzato, saturo di edifici commerciali e di servizio, percorso da un'importante arteria stradale. Dalle aperture rivolte a sud e a ovest si scorgono invece, tra gli edifici di recente costruzione, il fiume Ticino e la catena del Monte Rosa.
Fronti opposti, atmosfere diverse.

At our first visit to the construction site the spaces were empty cadenced with a regular sequence of reinforced concrete columns. The absence of windows was amplifying the road traffic making it extremely annoying.
Our impulse was been to create an internal sheltered space with a clear identity in contrast to the external noisy and frenetic environment. An urban shelter away from the bustle of the city.

Al primo sopralluogo gli spazi si presentavano vuoti, ritmati da una maglia regolare di pilastri in cemento armato. La mancanza dei serramenti amplificava il traffico stradale, rendendolo estremamente fastidioso.
Il nostro impulso è stato di contrapporre all'ambiente esterno, rumoroso e frenetico, uno spazio interno protetto, con un'identità chiara. Un rifugio urbano dal caos della città.

The large surface with windows on three sides has allowed us to organize the spaces around a central core destined for services with a lowered ceiling in order to contain the distribution of all the mechanical installations.
In this way the space on the perimeter is free. Towards north you have the bedrooms while the living area is to the south.

L'ampia superficie, finestrata su tre lati, ci ha permesso di organizzare gli spazi intorno a una fascia centrale destinata ai servizi, ribassata per contenere la distribuzione degli impianti meccanici.
Si libera così lo spazio sul perimetro. A nord si aprono le stanze da letto mentre la fascia sud è destinata alla zona giorno.

The choice of materials has been particularly selective.
The full-height doors in satin finished glass allow the natural light to enter through the spaces.
The dark oak wooden floors absorb and soften the shadows fading out the edges.
The cabinets in natural oak wood share the same grain as the floors. A bond of origin which enhances the quality of an antique and precious material.

La scelta dei materiali è stata particolarmente selettiva.
Le porte in vetro satinato a tutt'altezza permettono alla luce naturale di penetrare attraverso gli ambienti.
Il pavimento in legno di rovere scuro assorbe e ammorbidisce le ombre, sfumandone i bordi.
Le armadiature in rovere naturale condividono con il pavimento la medesima venatura. Un legame di origine che esalta le qualità di un materiale antico e pregiato.
