SUNY Cord Blood Bank | Francis Cauffman
SUNY Upstate Medical University’s Cord Blood Center, located at the Community Hospital campus in Syracuse, New York, is the second FDA approved cord blood facility in the United States. The lab, designed by Francis Cauffman, is a highly specialized and state-of-the-art facility for stem cell research. The Cord Blood Bank has set a design precedent for the institution as a contemporary addition to the hospital via a shared atrium and courtyard. As mandated by SUNY Upstate, the facility met LEED Silver requirements through the selection of high-tech materials including a photovoltaic “honeycomb” glass wall.
