Florence cultural centre | Mariya Serebrova

The tender task is resolved by creation of space, which includes the cultural center's building as its integral part. Integration of intense cultural environment into existing structure of the city is a process of mutual influence and development. This space is created by the city and its history, while also it causes development - synergetic continuation of formation and development of cultural context. This is an endless and unexpected creativity of unpredictable routes, which are unified by the dominant idea of culture, arts and science.

The perimeter formed by the arcade ensures free access at any side and at the same time, it creates special atmosphere of the inner world, which is abstract from common perception. Due to unlimited angle views of arches, each point exposes different view. Light as the primary instrument for architectural form making penetrates into the whole flowing multiform space.   The established archetypes, which are peculiar to architecture of Florence, are willfully applied. The area is elevated above general level of building and rising by the stairs also forms special perception. Such space allows enormous combinations of entries, exits, routes. Choice of different combinations by the visitors, consequently, results intense traffic of visitors of the cultural center. Internal and external routes are horizontally and vertically connected. It ensures openness of the building and its communication with external space. Such space solution is realized in the exhibition hall by using additional entresols.

Architectural cubage is formed by three main blocks, which are unified with the central axis – the main longitudinal nave. Sizes and heights of cubage are different. Due to walkable roofs connected to the promenade part of the arcade, promenade area can be expanded and view to the surrounding area can be provided.  Step-up increase of the building's height responds to functional intention and architectural idea – creation of progressive visual transition to the general dominant of tower, where rising continues. Upper part of the tower is transparent, made of glass. The tower is a part of exhibition hall.  When penetrating a glass ceiling, it provides triumphant presence of the dominant idea in interior and in exterior environments.

The complex of new cultural center of Florence does not distort view of the existing  urban development and it fits to the city view.
