Human beings are the most complex and adaptable creatures in the cosmos: not to their own credit, nature – or something else– made them needy and weepy and then, forced into a hostile environment, they adapt, evolving to safeguard their own survival – in spite of every other living species, to tell the truth. However, mors tua, vita mea.

This happened in each environment humankind colonized: they shaped it in their own image, in their own likeness until realizing that the result sucked and that it would be better to move somewhere else. This moment is an evolutionary step for humankind and the beginning of the end for the worlds it decides to colonize. But you can’t be ashamed of being the dominant species, can you?

This world is the next to be colonized and the process has already began: it’s necessary to know what is the elementary substance composing it, in order to operate with fitting tools.

The predominant element seems to be this black sticky substance that is distilled from each scratch or crack on the surfaces of things, it pours to re-form in something else when it reaches a solid element: so cutting tree bark, you can see this black wax pouring towards the ground and there condensing to the shape of a dry leaf; stepping on this, you’ll see a bunch of black insects buzzing up in the sky where they’ll get together to turn into something else and so on, in a continuous cycle. We have already dealt with the principle that nothing can be created or destroyed. The question about the primary origin of this black wax is a tricky one, but negligible for our purpose.

There are houses already built to host living creatures, even if I didn’t meet anyone here; maybe the planet was waiting for us. Each of them is completely furnished and there is a white canvas under a spotlight, but they’re otherwise empty of life.

Today I’m studying one of them to discover its reason of being. The shadows on the fabric are hypnotizing, they seem to dance, wrapping my outline; a warm hug I hope will never end; suggesting I’m in a place that has waited for me for centuries – that I belong here – that this place is part of me and I’m part of it.

I stretch out my arm to caress the fabric of the canvas, but I can’t touch it anymore: the fingers are soft, without bones, only black skin, sticky and unstable. My body is pouring in the hug of the black wax giving elementary substance back to the planet so that they may be reshaped in something more useful for the ecosystem. I know these things because the black wax is telling me them. And I know that it’s right. On this planet we’re not the dominant species, we are the first ring of the food chain.

So queste cose perché l’abbraccio di cera nera me le suggerisce. E so che è giusto.
